Monsoon Onset: Karnataka-Tamil Nadu to Experience Rainfall by Saturday
The monsoon season is making swift strides following its onset in Kerala. It is set to reach Karnataka and Tamil Nadu by Saturday, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat. Already, monsoon showers have commenced in certain parts of South Tamil Nadu, paving the way for the monsoon’s imminent coverage of the entire state and the North East region within the next couple of days.
As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Maharashtra can expect the monsoon to arrive on June 10, advancing northward from the southern regions. From there, it will progress towards the northeastern states, making its way through West Bengal and eventually reaching Bihar. By June 15, the monsoon’s influence will bring rainfall to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and the entirety of Bihar.
Meanwhile, the eastern parts of the country will experience an increase in heatwave conditions over the next 3-4 days. Heatwave alerts remain in effect for Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, East Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. In North-West India, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh, temperatures are predicted to remain 3-5 degrees above normal for the next five days.
With the monsoon’s advancement and the relief it brings, residents in the affected regions can anticipate a respite from the scorching temperatures and the much-needed arrival of refreshing rainfall.
In the next 36 hours, Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to intensify further
According to the latest update from the Meteorological Department, Biperjoy, the cyclonic system, is expected to intensify further in the next 36 hours. As it progresses, its impact will be felt along the coastal areas of Mumbai, Goa, Karnataka, and North Kerala. During this period, thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are anticipated. The system is projected to move in the north-to-northwest direction until June 11.
In preparation for the monsoon onset, fishermen have securely anchored their boats along the seashore in Mumbai. With the impending heavy rains, they have decided to refrain from venturing into the sea for the next two months. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings of heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds in the coastal regions. Currently, drizzling rains persist over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Goa, setting the stage for the monsoon’s arrival.
