There are a few ways by which you can clean up and customize your Twitter feed. You can mute an account, a tweet, hashtags, or a tweet. Muting will remove the tweets from your notifications tab, SMS, Home timeline, push notification, email notifications, and replies to tweets. You can personalize your concerns or topics that you are engrossed in. You can also block an account that will restrict that particular account from reaching you. You will not view their tweets and you will not be capable to follow them.

How To Mute A Word/ Hashtag On Twitter
- On the Twitter app, click on your profile icon. On desktop, choose More from the choices on the left on your Twitter home screen.
- Choose Settings and Privacy

- Choose Muted words.
- Choose the ‘+’ icon to add words (one word, phrase, @username, or hashtags at a time) that you want to mute.

You can then opt where you wish to mute these words or phrases by checking the Home timeline and Notification options. By default, these will be muted forever. This will keep you far from any tweet that carries the muted words or phrases by not showing you the tweet that carries the word/phrase and you will not get notifications for these tweets either.
Steps To Mute A Tweet Or An Account On Twitter
- Muting a tweet or an account is pretty much the same on the app or desktop. Navigate to a tweet and click the three-dot icon.
- You should see both muting choices here mute the conversation or mute the account.
- Click on either option to mute the tweet or the account.
Muting an account will not cause you to unfollow the said account. They can still send you direct messages, however, you will not get push or SMS notifications from those muted accounts.
How To Customize Content You View On Twitter
- This can be done just by the browser. Choose More from the left panel on your Twitter home screen.
- Choose Settings and Privacy
- Choose Privacy and Safety
- Choose Content you see.
- Here you will see topics and interests. Choose Topics.
- You can opt for whatever topics you are engrossed in and Twitter will display content associated with these topics on your feed.
- From the previous screen, choose Interests.
- You will see a list of interests that Twitter has opted for you based on your profile, activity, and the topics you follow.
- Deselect any case that would not like to view on your feed.
